My sewing machine is a very basic Brother one, given to me for Christmas in 2003. I thought it was a television when it was all wrapped up, which is what I had asked for, but alas my little 15 year old self was given a sewing machine! I was aghast at first, hesitant for years, but now I love it! It doesn't do much in the way of advanced stuff, and struggles to quilt any quilts bigger than 1 metre squared. Seeing as I'm really only finding my love for sewing now, I'd say it's the perfect machine for little beginner me :-)

I use a Singer Confidence and I love it! It's so smooth and quiet. It does most thing automatically and it has a digital screen with so many stitches! Thanks for the giveaway!

I have a Janome 3160QDC and I absolutely love it. It's incredibly easy to use and intuitive and stitches up everything from quilts to clothes beautifully. I used to have a cheap Brother from Costco and moving to this machine was like switching to a Rolls Royce. No more fighting my machine. Hooray!

Thanks for the super giveaway!

I have a brother machine that isn't even mine! Hasn't given me any problems yet though.

I have a brother. It's my second and I have loved them both. Easy to use.

I went from a 1981 Kenmore to a fab little Janome that I love. Having a thread cutter and needle threader on the machine is wonderful.

supersara20 said... #

Mine is a kenmore. Nothing fancy at all and thats what I love about it. Its a work horse too. There is honestly nothing I don't like about it... well maybe that I lost the manual!

I have a Brother NX 450. I really like it, for the price it has a ton of features (lots of stitches, extension table, auto thread cutter). It also quilts really well. My only complaint is that I wish it had a bigger throat space (why don't most machines for quilters have this?!). Thanks for the giveaway!

cIf i could do anything, i would swap my serger for an overlocker. Man, it would jus give such a finishing touch.....

I'm not sure that my sewing machine story is going to help you much! I use my great-grandmother's 1954 Pfaff - it does zig-zag and backstitch and still works great! Even free motion quilting is very nice! :) So, I love the history of my machine, how sturdy it is, and the cabinet it is in. I don't like how HEAVY it is! (also related to the cabinet!) I can't take it with me anywhere! Oh, I also wish I had a 1/4 in foot for it, I'm terrible with sewing even seams, and it turns out that's pretty important in quilting! :)

My sewing machine is a kenmore intro machine. I didn't know what I was getting into when I asked for a sewing machine and received this one as a gift. It's ok as a really basic starter machine, but I can't go much farther with it because you can't adjust the stitch length (so frustrating).

I have a Janome QDC. I just went through the buying a new machine chaos and it is a fun but scary ride! You want to get just the right one! I LOVE that it is a quilting machine but allows for every project as well. It has a start and stop button and I never need a pedal!

I have a Innov-ís 40 Project Runway Limited Edition, and I like its versatility for both quilting and making clothes as well as home projects. It tackles it all. I love its automatic backstitching at the beggining and end.

I have a Babylock that is kinda old...it was my mom's and now mine. I love it because it is QUIET. I've had to borrow a friend's recently when mine was broken and I forgot how quiet my Babylock is. They probably don't even make mine anymore!

I've had my Bernina 440 QE for two years now. What to say? It does what I ask with no complaints, works great, and I totally love it.

On the flip side, it has a ton of features I never actually use, like the bazillion decorative stitches, the stitch memory, ability to flip stitches and mirror them, etc.

But I do love quilting on it! It has an automatic needle threader that I've definitely become dependent upon.

Kathy said... #

I have a juki and love it but it only straight stitches.

Helen said... #

My sewing machine is a Brother. Mum gave it to me 28 years ago as a wedding present. Unfortunately i've never really liked it!!! It's always been a lousy buttonholer, the feeddogs don't drop and it doesn't like anything too thick. I'm hoping to buy a new one soon..but not a Brother.

wilai said... #

I like my Brother because it sews, it embroidery and it new. Don't like I am afraid to use on rough fabric as it is computerize and expensive and I am new at sewing. thk

I have a Necchi. It's just a standard Sewing Machine that was my birthday present about seven years ago. I love how easy it is to change stiches. I don't like is the fact that I have a normal presser foot and two plastic presser feet that I've never used, that and I wish the throat was bigger.

Kelsey said... #

I have a Janome Memory Craft 3000 that I adore-- it's very reliable, it was an incredibly good value, the up/down memory feature is a lifesaver, it has a couple of different options for starting/stopping sewing, etc etc. My only complaint is that there isn't a wavy line stitch among its ~30 options-- I've wanted to try wavy line straight line quilting via machine stitch, but obviously am not able to. Pretty minor complaint in the scheme of things! I guess I also wish the harp was a bit bigger. Good luck in your shopping endeavours!

Hazel Catkins said... #

I have a very low-budget Brother sewing machine that I love! It's simple and pink, but I don't know if it would be very good for quilting. It's great for little projects.

Cinnamon said... #

I have a babylock (mady by Brother) and it is fantastic. It will sew thick layers of felted sweaters together, does buttonholes no problem, and has an overlock stitch for knit fabrics that works like a charm. I don't really have any complaints about it, it's perfect for how often and what I sew! Thanks for the giveaway. I've had my eye on that book for awhile.

sandyandcosmo said... #

I have a Janome and I love it, it will sew through four layers of denim and never skip a stitch! Really nothing I don't like about it.

I have a Brother PC-420. I love it! It's rated #1 on Amazon for a reason. I've had it a year with no problems, ever. It's a good machine at a low price and comes with tons of accessories.

I have such a beginners sewing machine, My mother-in-law bought it for me and I am grateful but it is a singer simple and it is simple wishing someday to upgrade.

usagypsy said... #

I'm not going to be much help to you because I sew on a ancient machine. But I love her. This machine is probably over 25 years old and is a Singer. She is very reliable and has never given me a lick of trouble. Now the bad part....she is heavy, they don't make em like this anymore. And I can't find attachments, so that means I can't free motion quilt. But one day I will get a machine that does everything I want, but I will never get rid of my old girl!

Annie said... #

What a great giveaway!! My sewing machine was $90 at Sears 7 years ago (It's a Kenmore Mini Ultra). I like that it was cheap, it's small, blue, and easy to carry from room to room. But I'm definitely ready for an upgrade!! I will read through these comments to hopefully help me choose a new machine! :-) annie@gluegunannie.com

I bought a Bernina 430 last summer and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Especially the stitch regulator, so much fun to play with. Lots of dough, but I figure it's worth it if I use it for the new 50 years (God willing!)

I have a Kenmore machine. I really like how quiet it is, but sometimes it is too small to fit large quilts in it.

I have a 10+ year old basic Kenmore. I love it because there no computers and crazy things. I also wish I had a greater variety of stitches. I recently bought the new Singer 160th Anniversary machine, but sent it back. I'm in the market for an upgrade too.

Beth said... #

I love my brother se-400 because it also does embroidery! Also before I was using a machine that I got as a gift when I was 12 and didn't realize the care necessary for a sewing machine so it wasn't in the best shape. Andrea.e.Carson(at)gmail(dot)com

I have a Brother. It's a simple machine but has a lot of stitches. Wish it was a bit heavier though as it sometimes jumps around.

I have a great little sewing machine that I got from walmart a few years ago. It has been pretty good so far. But because it is so small it is hard for me to sew a quilt much larger than a lap sized one. Thanks, Jera

My current sewing machine is a ridiculous little cheap Simplicity machine that my mother in law bought for me ages ago- And it is AWESOME! I can't believe how well it's held up. I'm saving up for an upgrade but I'm still amazed at what this little guy can do!

I have a singer from the early 60s. I love it b/c it's the same machine I grew up using!

I like my sewing machine (a basic Brother) because it does what I need it to do, and it's the machine I learned to sew on. Dislikes: it's clunky and difficult to practice FMQ on, which is why I'm also looking into new machines (I might get a Horizon.)

I have a Bernina Virtuosa 155 and I LOVE it!! My hubby surprised me and gave it to me 8 years ago for Christmas. I love everything about it. Thanks for the great giveaway.

Nancy Bird said... #

I have a Pfaff Quilt Classicstyle 2027. I got it from Craig and his List and have been really happy with it. It does everything I need it to, but one consideration to make is whether you want the needle to stop in the fabric so that you can turn it. Mine doesn't do that but it's something that might be on the next model up.

Jean said... #

I am still learning about my machine...but I don't recommend it if you are looking for great quality. I got it for a steal on a Black Friday for $50! But it works for me.

Faby said... #

I got my sewing machine for Free at craigslist 3 years ago, is a Kenmore it does the job, but I', looking for a new one but I dont know what brand is best:/. Thanks for the chance.

What a great giveaway - thank you! I have a Brother CS-6000i which I got free (using points) but is a cheap buy anyway. It is perfectly functional with lots of stitches, nothing fancy, but it hasn't given me any trouble with quilting, piecing and sewing clothes of different fabrics, so it seems to be pretty good. It's about 2 years old - not sure how long it will last :)

Great giveaway! I have a Singer electric sewing machine & I love it. I bought it about 5 years ago when I first learned to sew, so it has been my baby & I love it! Hope you find one that you will love! thanks again for such a fun giveaway & I hope I win! :-)

I have an older Singer sewing machine that I use. It does the job, but it definitely doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the newer machines!

I have a very basic sewing machine (Janome 415). IT does the job for me though. I love it because it was a wedding gift from my Mum. I wish it had a little more room for squishing quilts through it though!

I found your giveaway at The One Stop Giveaway Shop! I like my sewing machine, it's not fancy but it covers the basics. One day I would like to upgrade to a machine with more stitch options and bells and whistles, but for now it's perfectly fine for the basic quilting and garment sewing I do.

Hi! Thanks for the opportunity. :)

I have a 35 year old Janome - I love that it is so simple to use and to keep clean and dust-free, because I can take it apart myself and maintenance is really easy. Plus, it suits my needs as it has all the stitches I need. I am a bit scared of computerised models, and I hear these older ones are easier to fix!

I have a Janome DC1050 I love love love it. It is a beginner sewing machchine though and I will be looking in to getting a new one prob. still stick with Janome as it a wonderful brand of machines!

ikisti said... #

I have a Singer, it is more than a few years old now , but still runs great.

Staci said... #

This is such a lovely prize! Thank you for offering it.
I have 2 machines, a low end Janome which is a lovely, sturdy, powerful workhorse. The thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have adjustable needle position. I have a cheap Brother machine as a back up and to take to classes. Brothers sew very nicely, but they are not well made and don't last very long in my experience. (Yes, this isn't my first Brother machine.)
Good Luck shopping!

Ali said... #

I like that it was inexpensive! And it's pretty good for sewing clothes, it's a Brother Project Runway one - but it's horrible for quilting, free motion quilting just doesn't work on it.

Danny Heyen said... #

I have a Viking Sapphire 835. I wish I would have gotten the 850Q because it has much better features. Honestly, I've had a lot of tension problems.

Chez Roo said... #

I have a Babylock Decorators Choice that I bought second hand. I like the features like needle up/down, quilting extension table, knee lift, multiple needle positions and easy buttonholes. I don't like that it doesn't feel as robust as my older singer (or even my older plastic Kenmore). And it's in the shop right now because the timing is off :( But thanks for the generous giveaway! I love your blog.

Deb said... #

I LOVE my machine. It has served me faithfully now for about 23 years! It is a Bernina 1130 and it sews as well as the day I got it. It is not fancy but it is reliable and has sewn more projects than I can count.

Mine is a basic Singer and while it's easy to use and does the job, it doesn't have many bells and whistles.

I have a Brother Super Ace II which my friend gave me [I know, I'm SO lucky]. What I love about it is the needle threader! I can cope with anything if the machine has a needle threader. :)

i have a brother innovis 4500 (i think that's the no.) it's an embroidery/sewing machine. i love it, but wouldn't get another because it was so expensive. i had a less expensive brother that worked just fine but hubby wanted me to get the upgrade. i use mine mostly for sewing quilts now, occasionally embroider. thanks for the opportunity and have a great day

Stephanie said... #

I actually have 3 sewing machines (which I realize is a bit crazy): a 40+ year old singer that could probably sew a car together, a 30ish year old Singer that was nice and reliable until I decided to tinker with it and my main squeeze a Husqvarna Lily. The last one was given to me by a family member. It is such a lovely machine with about a million stitches. It sews beautifully, but I don't enjoy sewing thick fabric with it since I tend to have some tension issues with it (user error). Overall though it is a great sewing machine!

Addibrae said... #

I really don't know much about sewing machines. The one I use belongs to my mom.

KeriCan said... #

I have a Brother - very easy to thread and work with. Two issues I haven't taken the time to work out - how does the self-needle threader work and buying a second bobbin case so I can have one set for shirring.

Vroomans' Quilts said... #

I have a 45+yr. old New Home (janome) that is a workhorse. Can use almost any thread in her (she doesn't like Aurifil) and FMQ better than my new machine (Brother 6600). Yes, I love my old girl better than my new boy. My e-mail is in my blogger profile.

Lynda said... #

I have a Singer and a Janome. I love the Singer's millions of pretty stitches and how it always runs smoothly. The Janome irritates me because it always messes up (but does it super quietly) so I spend way too much time ripping stitches out. I love how quite it runs when it is working properly.

Melanie said... #

I have a Brother Pacesetter...which I love. It quilts well plus does embroidery. I do wish I had a stitch regulator....a Bernina is on my wish list :)

Lucija said... #

I have a singer and I totally love it!

Sasha said... #

I have a Husqvarna Viking Topaz 30, I absolutely love it, but it was a huge step up from my old machine that kept having hissy fits. I sometimes feel though that it sews on it's own and doesn't actually need me there at all...

Aletta said... #

I have the cheapest Singer that is sold here in the Netherlands. It is fine for simple sewing, making skirts and easy patchwork, but I can't quilt with it. I guess I need to start saving for a good machine, because handquilting all of my quilts takes too long! Good luck on choosing and buying a machine!

I have a Kenmore sewing machine that I got back in the 1970s. What I like about it is that it amazingly still works, tho it can't compete with the fancy computerized ones on the market today.

I have an old Brother machine that I borrowed off my mother-in-law. It isn't flash or fancy but it does the job so far. :)

Sooli said... #

I have my old faithful 21 year old Janome. I do all my patchwork and quilting on it and it never misses a beat. Its not electronic and I think that's good for me. I'm sure I make it do things that an electronic machine just wouldn't like! The only thing I would love would be a needle up/down function but I manage without it. Mind you a never-ending bobbin would be nice - why can't they come up with a design to take a full reel of thread instead of a tiny bobbin?!

Madeline said... #

I need a new machine too, because mine is just getting old. That is the bad news. It is 30 years old, and cant do the fancy stitches I'd like to use for embellishing. However, it is heavy, (bad), but made of steel, and doesnt break if you jam it (good)

I have an old Kenmore. What I like about it is its durability. It's sewn through everything-- even aluminum screening-- and is still chugging along.

What I don't like about my machine is the stitch it keeps: The tension can be a bit tricky to regulate.

Thanks for the opportunity to enter!

I have a Pfaff Select 3.0.

I love it because it has a real good motor (just metal, no plastic) which is able to sew through jeans, leather or several layers of fabric even in slow mode (I killed my last machine while sewing a quilt).

Also it has the ITD system for the double transport of fabric, so no problem to sew any kind of fabric. Love it! With cotton I can even sew a straight line freehand ^^

I don't like the old fashioned system to get in new yarn into the needle... and I would love more play stitches (but you can get that with the select 4.0 but that was way too expensive for me).

All together I really love my Pfaff and I expect it to last for years and years to come beeing a Pfaff :)

I have two Brother machines and honestly, I prefer the simpler one. The computerized one with lots of decorative stitches and embroidery capability does not sew fast. When I've got her revved up, the whole machine bounces up and down like it's driving on a gravel road. You have to sew slowly. The basic machine zooms away with no problem.

I have been wanting that book since it first came out! Not too much help in the sewing machine department. Mine is a starter Brother machine that I got on Amazon when I took my first sewing class. Maybe one day I can get a fancy one. Sigh.

Oh, what an excellent question! I have a Janome 1024, which I really like (a birthday present from my well-trained boyfriend!). The one thing I am not very keen on, though, is that the invisible zip foot isn't a clip on like all the others - you actually have to unscrew the foot and screw on the attachment instead.

Thanks for your giveaway!

My husband bought me a Brother LS-2160 when we moved to Australia - it was a "quick fix" and I was just learning how to sew. If I had more money to spend on it, I'd probably choose one that isn't as temperamental with a more even stitch. Or maybe that's just me not knowing how to sew properly.

I have a Brother CE-4000, and I really love it. It's super reliable. I also love that I've been able to pick up a Brother brand walking foot, quilting guide and darning/free motion foot for only a few bucks each. That being said, I've been sewing and piecing quilts for a few years, but I am just trying to learn to machine quilt, so I don't know if it will stand up to that. akmajor(at)gmail(dot)com

I love my Bernina Activa. She makes the most beautiful stitches and will sew through anything! The only thing I don't like is that Bernina parts are pricey...like a walking foot that costs $20-40 on any other machine is $200 for her. I also have a BabyLock Quilters Choice Professional, but I prefer the Bernina for piecing.

I have a Singer mechanical machine that I bought from a friend. I really love it; the only thing I wish it had is a stippling stitch on it (my friend's machine has one built in, which would be nice) and a walking foot (though I could buy one but it would have been awesome if it had come with one!). So I'd say look at the stitch patterns on the machine you're buying to see if it does everything you need. I will say I really love my Singer!!!

I have a brother that I bought at cost-co. Its been a great little machine that came with the darning foot so I can FMQ, but the motor in the end is going to burn out because I have done so many projects on this machine. I would suggest you save a little bit more money up and buy a heavier duty machine because in the long run you will have saved money because you won't have to replace it quickly. I am already looking for a new machine after 3.5 years and then I will keep this machine just for piecing.

Hi Taryn, I have an Elna 2000. It was a gift from my mother in law when my son was born and that was 20 years ago. It has sewn like a dream ever since. Apart from a check up at the sewing center ten years ago and a new foot pedal wire (they wear out in any machine after that long:)it has had no problems. I love the ease of use, the beautiful stitch choices and that I can take the bobbin case apart to clean it, put it back together and it still works like the day I bought it:)-sews on anything from lawn to upholstry fabric.
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

Nice giveaway - I have 2 Singers, my favorite being the 401 - it's from the 50's. :) It's a workhorse! I came here from The One Stop Giveaway Shop.

Hello! My sewing machine is pretty basic, all switches and slides, no electronic buttons or computery parts. Since it was my first sewing machine I wanted something really basic. It's a Janome and I bought it at a home show. It has done well for me without being overly complicated. :)

I have a Husqvarna Viking Emerald 16. It's my first machine so it's special to me, but it's a bit basic and it does drive me mad a lot of the time!

I love my machine because it belonged to my Best Friends Gma and she pasted away and my friend has intrusted me with it to learn to sew. Its very simple, but So So sturdy..

I have a Janome Memory Craft 6600 and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It's absolutely fabulous! It sews fabulously, great for free motion quilting, it even cuts it's own thread. Plus there are TONS of stitch pattern options - it's really quite fantastic. I often to refer to it as my 3rd child since I got it before I had my last baby :)

My sewing machine is a Pfaff from the late 1970's. It is about as old as I am, and was handed down by my mom. I love the fact that I fondly remember her sewing on it! She gave it to me when she purchased a new Pfaff for herself. It is an extremely sturdy machine, and I love it! The one downside is that it is heavy, but that can also be seen as a good thing, because it means it is quality. Thanks for the giveaway!

Susan J Barker said... #

Thanks so much for offering a giveaway! All these comments must keep you very busy. I have a Janome 6600P and I bought it about 3 years ago. It is pretty much everything I want in a machine. Best for me is that it has a start stop button right on the machine, I don't have to use a foot pedal (I have problems with my feet) so the start'/stop at hand is perfect. A larger throat area means I can machine quilt easier and I just plain like the looks of it! I haven't found anything I don't like -- well, except that it is very heavy and not at all portable to workshops or quilt classes...

pbs.seams said... #

I have a brother 950 but wish I would have gone a little bit higher. I do like it though!

Cricket said... #

Oh, I'm going to read all your comments. Picking a machine is *hard*. I'm helping my mom pick one for herself right now. I myself have a Kenmore that is 10 years old. What I like? Honestly, it always works. I don't have problems with it as long as I treat it well. There are a couple things I wish it had - that fancy thing where you can get the needle to stop up or down? I'd LOVE that. And some fancy stitches would be nice. I have about 3 decorative stitches. But it's not a make or break.

If I win, this book will go to my daughter, who is 8. She has a Janome Sew Mini, which works fabulously for a small machine. It doesn't do much, but it does it well.

Thanks for the chance to win.

I sew on a Juki TL2010q. It has a ton of space and sews and quilts beautifully. It can't be an only machine though as it is straight stitch only :)

Jill said... #

OK I have two machines. A Juki with a large throat space that I use for free maotion quilting. This is a new purchase. My piecing machine is a Pfaff. I love the built in walking foot, threader, that that foot comes up when the needle is down. I wish it had a thread cutter, but this is an older machine.

I have a Janome 6260 that I love. The things I wish it had are a bigger throat space, underneath lighting, and the automatic thread cutter. I keep dreaming about a Janome Horizon. Thanks for the giveaway.

Love my Bernina. the only thing I don't like about my model is that you have to unscrew the metal plate under the needle to clean it out. But I think they have changed that feature to be a pop out plate--because that is what my sister has on hers, who bought hers after me.

Thanks for the giveaway! I love 'Grande Finale'! I sew on a Janome 4623 le plus, and I love that it stitches through anything I feed it. I'm really bad about planning which way to irn my seams, but so far my machine has handled anything I've thrown at it :)

Unknown said... #

I love my sewing machine because it was my mothers and she handed it down to me after I showed interest in sewing. It's older, like from the 50's or 60's. Made of steel or iron and it's very heavy! Its a baby blue color that I love and my mother took such great care of it. She made a lot of costumes/outfits/curtains for me and my siblings with that sewing machine growing up and now I am making things for my own children with it! Love it!

Anonymous said... #

I have a Janome 6600P. It is a good solid machine with some fun decorative stitches and a built-in walking foot! I really like the extra wide harp space on the machine. What I dislike most about the machine is it is heavy - too heavy to take to a class. So I have a lighter Bernina (which I love as well) to carry to class.

SewNurse said... #

I bought a "cheaper" singer machine not knowing if I would enjoy sewing or not. Turns out I love it and am also considering a new machine!

I have a pretty basic "Brother" machine that I got years ago from my parents. I love it because it's been a work horse but honestly I think that it is also time for me to upgrade to a better machine with a bigger arm span for quilting.

Pippa Parsons said... #

I have a janome memory craft which I love for piecing and embroidery work but its too slow for quilting on the frame so i've got a Brother PQ1500 which is only a straight stitch machine, but 1500spm :)

I just got my first sewing machine. A friend that has been sewing since she was five recommended it. She has a Bernina and for a beginner sewer, like me, she recommended the Bernette. It was less than $300 and has been wonderful! I highly recommend buying it from one of the small quilting stores that have the ladies who have been sewing forever working there. They have been such an amazing resource for when I get stuck. Best of luck and thanks for the giveaway chance!

My sewing machine is a Toyota RS2000 which used to be my daughters before she left to live in Singapore. It has wonky tension, spool feeder and as yet no walking foot. I still have my grandmother's original Singer sewing machine which is beautiful but impractical.

Unknown said... #

I have a Bernina QE and I love the self threading bobbin, and how easy it is to use. I wish it had a bottom thread cutter, though and I don't use all the extra stitches much.

Anna said... #

I have use of a Bernina acctiva 220, I love it, it's a very reliable machine the only thing I don't like about it is that I don't get to use it enough.

anne said... #

I love my Bernina. It took a bit to set it up for machine quilting - tension adjustment and the correct thread and needle, but I love it!

Well, you won't want to buy my sewing machine! I have a very basic little White machine that my dad bought me when I was in college (it's what I asked for for my birthday one year). That said, it is very functional and easy to use. It has no bells and whistles but so far (fingers crossed) it always works!

I have a Kenmore computerized sewing machine. I like it generally but there a few things I don't like. It doesn't sew well through heavy fabric and the feed dogs don't pull as evenly as I would like.

I have a simply, $150 Kenmore. My mom bought it for me about 5 years ago, when I decided I wanted to get back into sewing. I am going to be ready for a new one soon as well.

I like my machine. It gets the job done. But I think I may be ready for something more fancy :-)

Melissa said... #

I have a Janome Horizon and I love it. The only thing I don't like is that it struggles over bulky seams. I now know (after sewing on my mom's older machine the last 2 weeks) that this must be a Janome issue because her machine is almost 20 years old and has the exact same issue that my 1 year old machine has. Other than that is fabulous for quilting! I have quilted a queen size quilt on it with relatively no trouble at all. Thanks for the generous giveaway!

Thanks!

I have Janome Sewist. I love it because it's simple to use and mechanical - so not much to go wrong and easy to fix (touch wood). Sometimes I think it would be nice to have something a bit quicker and the odd fancy stitch wouldn't go amiss!

I have a new Juki machine and I love it. It has all the options that I wanted, quilts, quiet, self threading, auto tension, thread snips, push one button and needle lines up to edge of foot at 1/4",needle down option, and tons of others I havent even found yet. There really isnt anything I can find that I dislike yet other than I would want a more detailed book about all the stitches etc.

My sewing machines used to belong to my grandmother-in-law and man...it's got character! She is a whopping huge gal with lots of spunk. Even when oiled you can hear her chugging away from every room in the house (THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD!). But she works like a charm and can do things my newer sewing machine just can't. Her name is Big Mama and she makes me one happy sewer!

I love my Bernina Virtuosa 153... had it for 12 years and still don't have anything to complain about! It has the basic digital display, but not the all out computer embroidery stuff... my mom got the big fancy embroidery machine a few years ago, and we both agree that for everyday sewing the more basic machine is more fun to sew on

I have an old Kenmore that is really a Janome in disquise. It is an absolute workhorse - no clue what I'll do if it ever dies. I also have a Pfaff Grand Quilter that I picked up on Craigslist that is my goto for all my FMQ. Craiglist has been a great resource for me for used machines:-)

I have a Bernina 440 and I love it! I had some problems at first with my BSR - the really nifty quilting foot, but that's finally been fixed and it sews great. Cons - it's louder than my mom's older Bernina and I get irritated occasionally with the stitch length when the walking foot is on.

Thanks for the great giveaway!

I have wanted to trade up to a Brother PQ1500s for a while and finally got it this year with my tax return! I love it. It's a no frills quilting machine. Has precise tension and beautiful straight stitches! So far, I've hemed pants, sewn in a an invisible zipper, quilted and pieced a quilt top. I had a brother cs6000i for years with no thraot space so this quilting machine is a dream with all the extra throat room! Highly recommend for affordable quilting machine

I have a basic Kenmore, purchased for me by my husband. It's perfect for now, actually--nothing fancy, but good for what I use it for (basic garments, mending, pillows, etc.). I actually like that it's not computerized. I'll probably inherit my mom's 1958 Singer one day--lots of memories in that machine! Thanks!

I have a Brother and I love that it wasn't terribly expensive (under $300) but came with all sorts of accessories and more stitches than I will probably ever use. I've had it for five years and it gets really regular use and I've never had one problem with it. It's a lovely all around machine. It's not a big ole fancy Bernina or Baby Loc, but it does the job and it didn't cost a small fortune!

I still don't know how to FMQ but if I know I most probably would have bought the 440 to get the bsr regulator (mine doesn't have it). I don't like that it has a very minimal throat space...
